UK MOBILE OPERATOR Orange has announced that it will release Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) to Samsung Galaxy S II owners this week.
Although the update is already available to those on O2, Three and Vodafone as well as users with SIM free Galaxy S II handsets, Orange has been dragging its heels when it comes to setting a date. However, the mobile operator has now told The INQUIRER that Android 4.0 ICS will reach the Samsung handset in days, saying, "The update should be available with Galaxy S2 owners by the end of this week."
Once it's available, Orange customers will be able to download Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich via KIES, Samsung notes, given the large size of the update. Once it is installed users will find several new features on their Galaxy S II smartphone, including Face Unlock functionality, a faster web browser, a tweaked user interface and general performance and battery life enhancements.
Unsurprisingly, Orange's Everything Everywhere partner, T-Mobile still has yet to set a date for its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich rollout. T-Mobile was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.
Update: T-Mobile has just confirmed that the update will also be arriving later this week saying, "We've been working closely with Samsung on this, and we can confirm that we will be rolling out the ICS update for Samsung Galaxy S2 from 22nd April."
